I’ve finally been able to kick drinking soda after finding this yummy alternative – kombucha! I drink it once a week to help settle my stomach and aid with digestion. Check the ingredients below:
Ingredients: Filtered Water, Organic Green Tea, Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Ginger, Organic Lemongrass, Organic Cayenne Pepper, Organic Lemon Balm, Live Probiotic Culture.
I was introduced to the drink from a friend at the gym who battled cancer. Although I definitely do not claim that this is the cure, my friend really and truly believes that drinking kombucha helped with his battle. Most people drink kombucha for the perceived benefit of probiotics for the gut. A little about the history below:
Dating back to ancient Chinese custom, kombucha is brewed in the home and consumed for its believed health benefits. Commercial bottling didn’t begin until the 1990s. Since then, new brands have been popping up from the woodwork. This brand has won my heart.
Brew Dr.‘s kombucha is made in a quaint facility in Portland, Oregon. It is a child of Townshend Tea Co., which began brewing teas in 2006 and now sells over 100 flavors commercially. Townshend began creating kombucha from these same teas in 2008 and Brew Dr. was born. Unlike other household commercial kombucha brands, Townshend uses tea instead of juice to brew kombucha. Also, no additional sugars or flavors are added after fermentation. Fermentation can last up to two weeks.
Townshend has also recently released their own brand of hard spirits under the brand Thomas & Sons Distillery. You can check them out here.
My favorite flavor is lemon, ginger & cayenne {pictured}. Yummy! It is a must-try for every tea enthusiast. Check out the other flavors:
Citrus Hops,
Clear Mind,
Just Ginger,
Love,
Nutritonic,
Spiced Apple,
Superberry,
White Rose
Enjoy!
